VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Committee’s and Commissions

The Preston Ethics Commission, in addition to an open “Alternate” position on its Commission, has an opening for an Investigator. “Alternate & Investigative Commission Members: The three (3) alternate and one (1) investigative members shall be appointed by unanimous vote of the Board of Selectmen for the term of three (3) years, except that, of the initially appointed alternate members, one (1) shall serve for two (2) years and one (1) for three (3) years. Alternate members shall be included in all commission meetings and discussions however shall not vote on pending issues unless a regular member steps aside or is not present at the time of the vote. When it is necessary for an alternate member to fill in during a meeting, preference will be given to the longest serving alternate, thereafter on an alternating basis, providing the political balance of the commission would not be compromised. 

The Investigative member shall investigate all complaints forwarded to the commission and report findings to the commission but not vote on any matters before the commission. Contact the Commission Chairman for additional information or download and fill out the application on the Ethics Commission Website.

The Preston Ethics Commission is currently accepting applications for membership on the Commission. Please visit the Documents Page of the Ethics Commission website where you can download a membership application and also view other information on the Commission to help you make a decision as you consider the possibility of becoming a Commission member. Additionally, you can contact the Commission Chairman Hank Podraza to discuss this opening.

Preston Planning & Zoning Commission: There is a vacancy on the Planning & Zoning Commission. Anyone interested in serving on this Commission should contact the Chairman, Art Moran, Jr. through the Planning & Zoning Office @ 887-5581, ext. 109 or   x 118.

Zoning Board of Appeals: There is a vacancy on the Zoning Board of Appeals for a Regular Member and an Alternate Member. Anyone who is interested in considering this volunteer position should contact Donna at the Town Hall or call (860) 887-5581 Ext 101. All inquiries will be forwarded to the Commission Chairman and the Board of Selectmen.

The Preston Public Library is currently accepting applications for a vacancy on the Town’s Library Board of Trustees, which administrates the Preston Public Library. Interested parties are encouraged to send a letter of interest to the library at 389 Route 2, Preston, 06365 or email: library@prestonlibray.org. Applicants should include a short list of attributes that they believe prepares them to serve as a trustee.

Candidates for the Trustee position will be interviewed and selected by the Preston Library Board of Trustees. The Library Board meets once a month on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Preston Public Library.

The 9 board members are charged with setting library policies, overseeing the expenditure of funds, and providing an essential link between the library and the community it serves. Key qualifications include a genuine interest in library services and a willingness to be an advocate for this unique institution. The board holds monthly evening meetings; members are also expected to represent the library at other meetings and events at various times during the year.

PRESTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION: Currently there is a vacancy on the Preston conservation Commission for a regular member and two
alternate members. Anyone who is interested in considering these volunteer positions should contact Donna at the Town Hall or call (860) 887-5581 Ext 101. All inquiries will be forwarded to the Commission Chairman and the Board of Selectmen.

Building & Facilities Committee Opening: The Building and Facilities Committee is looking for a new member. The committee advises the Board of Selectmen as requested on Town owned buildings and facilities and assists in assessing related costs. Familiarity and knowledge of the trades is of interest but not required. To volunteer, or to learn more about the opportunity, please contact Mr. Walter Kornosewicz at 886-4904 or Mr. Merrill Gerber at 887-7169.

Youth Service Bureau: We are looking for volunteers to join YSB. Please contact Rebecca Edelman at the YSB office at 887-5581 x117 or by e-mail prestonysb@hotmail.com

The Town of Preston is seeking to establish a list of on call contractors to provide carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing services on an as needed basis. Interested contractors should submit which trade or trades that you can provide together with your experience, hourly rate, availability, license & insurance information and references.

Preston Housing Authority: Currently there is a vacancy on the Preston Housing Authority. We are looking for a volunteer from Preston who would be interested in becoming a member. Regular meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.; special meetings are held when necessary. The members of the Housing Authority oversee the operation and maintenance of the onsite facilities bearing in mind that Connecticut Statues are met in all cases. If anyone is interested please contact the First Selectman’s Office (887-5581) or Carol Onderdonk, Executive Director of the Lincoln Park Complex (887-4865).
