The Town Transfer Station is located at 108 Ross Road. All vehicles entering the facility must display a Transfer Station sticker, there are no exceptions. The stickers are available from employees at the Transfer Station. Be prepared to show the vehicle registration with a Preston address in order to receive the sticker.
The Town accepts for disposal the following
- Household trash (bagged)
- Bulky waste (all bulky waste is weighed & a fee charged for disposal)
Recycling Information
- Mixed clean paper (including newspaper)
- Corrugated cardboard (flattened, cleaned)
- Bottles, cans, aluminum foil, milk and water plastic jugs (clean)
- Colored plastic jugs, etc (HDPE #1 and #2) (clean)
Items that requiring seeing the attendant for disposal
- Engine drain oil
- Batteries
- Scrap metal
- Anti-freeze
- Light bulbs, fluorescent bulbs (special container)
Items that requiring seeing the attendant for disposal and a fee
- Demolition material
- Tires
- Refrigerators and air conditioners
- Propane tanks

The Transfer Station does not accept leaves or brush per Town Ordinance. Brush may be brought to the Public Works Department located at 423 Route 2 Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To obtain a burning permit, please visit the 1st Selectman’s Office located at 389 Route 2.
