The mission of the Preston Fire Departments is to protect life and property through prevention, education, and suppression.

Poquetanuck Fire Department Membership Groups

The Poquetanuck Fire Department is looking for Members for the following membership groups:

  • Emergency Responder: Persons 18 years of age or older, wishing to serve the Town of Preston as MRT/EMT(s), apparatus drivers, firefighters, or Fire Police. They will respond to emergency situations, for more information view the Poquetanuck Fire Department website.

We are pleased to announce that Keith Wucik was appointed as our New Fire Chief at our BOS meeting on October 14th. His appointment is effective November 16, 2021 when Chief Casey retires. We thank Chief Casey for all his service and dedication to our region and community.Keith has lived in Preston for 52 years with his family. He joined Poquetanuck Volunteer Fire Department in 1987 and was hired by the City of Norwich Fire Department in 1998. Currently, he holds the rank of Battalion Chief and was the Acting Fire Chief for City of Norwich August 2019 – September 2020. In addition, he has the following certifications: Fire Marshal, Fire Instructor 1, Fire Officer 1, EMT, Incident Safety Officer, Firefighter II, Haz Mat Tech, Rescue Technician, FEMA Certified Emergency Manager, and has completed courses at Three Rivers Community College in their Fire Technology and Administration Program.

 He has been involved in Preston Little League for the past 14 years. We appreciate his volunteerism and service to our community and look forward to his leadership as our new Fire Chief.
