PUBLIC INPUT REQUESTED

Please Take Our Survey on Cannabis

The State of Connecticut recently legalized the dispensing and cultivating of Cannabis, but each town in Connecticut has the right to decide if they would like to allow these cannabis uses within their community or not. The Planning and Zoning Commission has adopted a temporary moratorium on allowing the cannabis uses so that the Commission can consider how to address the matter. Below are some facts you should know:

  • If the town does not adopt any regulations or ordinance, the dispensing and cultivating of cannabis would automatically be permitted
  • The Commission can prevent these uses all together or regulate them however they desire, such as limiting hours of operation, types of signage, locations – proximity to schools, churches, libraries, etc.
  • If permitted, based on the statutes, the town can only have one dispensing facility and one micro-cultivor until July 1, 2024 at which time the Commissioner of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection may establish a new numerical cap.

This is an important issue for the town and your input is critical. Please take this short survey by clicking on SURVEY LINK. We value your opinion and will formulate regulations based on your input! Please be sure to leave comments in the comment box, especially if you are interested in allowing such uses and would like to provide recommendations for how to regulate them! If you would like more information regarding the Connecticut statutes legalizing cannabis please click SCCOG INFORMATIONAL OVERVIEW (PDF).

Thank you for your assistance. We appreciate your input!

Arthur Moran Jr.

Chairman, Planning and Zoning Commission
