The Board of Assessment Appeals is a board of members elected by the Town. Members serve a four year term and may be re-elected for successive terms.
The Board generally meets twice a year in March and September. The March meeting is for Real Estate property and the September meeting is for motor-vehicles. Legal notices of such meetings are published in local area newspapers, on the town website and are on file in the Office of the Town Clerk .
Hearings are by appointment only, and require an application. Applications for the March hearings are available on-line or in the Assessor's office in early January and have a February 20 filing deadline. Applications for the September hearings are available in early July and have a August 30 filing deadline.
Personal appearance before the Board of Assessment Appeals is required in order for the Board to consider the appeal. If you are unable to appear in person, you may give written authorization for someone to appear on your behalf as your agent. All documentation substantiating your appeal should be presented during the meeting.
